openKylin Version Strategy Upgrade!
The openKylin Community Technical Committee held a regular meeting, during which participants engaged in in-depth discussions on key topics, such as the community's version release strategy and multi-architecture support. The following important resolutions were voted on and approved:
1. Expanding the Architecture Landscape and Embracing a Diverse Ecosystem
As of now, the openKylin community has robust support for three mainstream architectures: X86, ARM development boards, and RISC-V development boards. These are maintained by the Release SIG, Embedded SIG, and RISC-V SIG, respectively. In future version plans, the openKylin community will adopt a multi-architecture parallel development strategy. Collaborating with leading industry players like Phytium, Cixtech, Loongson, and Sunway, the community will gradually introduce image versions for ARM General Purpose, LoongArch, and SW architectures, further enriching the architecture ecosystem of openKylin!
2. Introducing Long-Term Support (LTS) Versions for System Stability and Upgrades
To meet the growing demand from enterprises and individual users for system stability and long-term maintenance, the openKylin community has decided to introduce Long-Term Support (LTS) versions. LTS versions will provide extended update support and security maintenance, ensuring users can develop, work, and enjoy a more stable and reliable system environment while reducing upgrade costs and the risk of incompatibilities that may arise from major version changes. Moving forward, the community will adopt a dual-track strategy of "Innovative Versions + LTS Versions":
● Innovative Versions: One new version will be released annually, with one year of passive update support.
● LTS Versions: One new version will be released every three years, offering one year of active update support plus one year of passive update support.
This approach ensures a balance between innovation and stability, providing users with both cutting-edge features and long-term reliability
